So I missed the CBS Beatles 50 Anniversary Special last night. I will make sure that I see it. I am a fanatic. But I was given some of the highlights and the who’s who, who appeared on the show. But who was not? Jimmie Nicol, that’s who. Who the f*$& is Jimmy Nicol? Of course most of you who are real fanatics, know that he was a Beatle for a couple of weeks, covering for Ringo when he was ill. This was during a very crucial time for the Fab Four. He saved their asses. Is he still alive?
I read a great book about him recently. Fascinating. “The Beatle Who Vanished.” And I couldn’t help relating to Jimmy Nicol. Lots of pain in his career. (I know. Whip out your tiny violins…as long as you play Eleanor Rigby!) He had a major spotlight on him, and then….nothing.
I’m borrowing the photo below, that is in the book. The photo speaks to me. Jimmie is on his way home, after being in the most insane tour of Beatle History. Gosh, he looks lonely.
All the lonely people, where do they all belong?
Well, if he is alive, I think he belonged on the show last night, rather than a label promoting someone who has nothing to do with the Beatles.
