A couple of nights ago I was channel surfing. I came across the end of America’s Got Talent. The “Military Spouses Choir” performed. They were a large group of women whose husbands are currently serving. They mentioned in their intro the theory that music helps heal; and specifically effective in brain trauma and PSD. When there is brain damage, although one may not respond to speaking, they can respond to music.

Now that is a beautiful thing. And there were tears from the women singing, as they thought about their husbands risking their lives, hoping they get home safely. Anyone can empathize with that. And they were quite good as well!

And there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that music is very powerful. It can heal.

My problem, yes my problem, well, my several problems that popped into my head were as follows:

1) It’s so fucking stupid to be over there in the first place.

2) Our soldiers are not the only victims over there. Who sings to them? I feel for ALL.

3) I found it rather ironic that our government spends a shitload of money on “Defense,” but cuts all the music budgets for schools and other art programs.

So I will make this short and sweet:

America’s got talent, but no common sense. (I am referring to the government – not the people…not most of them, anyway.) It does not take a brain surgeon to solve this problem. (There is no risk of anyone having that high level of intelligence in Congress. They are useless and act brain-damaged.) Bring our soldiers home. Stop killing innocent people. Stop wasting our money. Start singing more!

I hate to tell you this but the government IS a REFLECTION of the PEOPLE and THE PEOPLE can be as stupid and as greedy as the government. Just ask all those people who work in plants that make the weapons, planes, ships and vehicles that we use to kill hundreds of thousands of people around the world. I will bet my house that a disturbing percentage would justify the wars we engage in order to keep their jobs. Our government is sick because we are sick and until we take RESPONSIBILITY for our condition, we will NEVER fix it.

Tony, don’t bet your house!! We Like it there.
Point well made, apathy and living in our mundane little lives protected from the evils that surround us in our daily endeavors leads to self protection.
I agree with Linda that music can deliver a message that motivates and heals, but can it sustain a change that lasts. We live in a world which is motivated by $$, and the few that have it all just want to keep it just as it is. But I am glad there are people out there like Linda using her voice to try and make a difference.
Peace and Love to you both, maybe collectively we can make a difference
